The Mach Foundation

Trentodoc, like the whole of the Trentino wine world, is supported by the Mach Foundation, an important organisation that conducts research and training.

Since 2008, it has continued the activities of the historic San Michele all’Adige Agrarian Institute, which was founded in 1874. It is no less than a citadel of agriculture, extending over 14 hectares. With rooms, greenhouses, laboratories, offices and 70 hectares of arable land in the San Michele all’Adige municipality (16km from Trento), the Mach Foundation has attained important milestones at an international level in training, research and technology transfer in the agricultural, food and environmental sectors.

In its 150 years of existence, it has contributed to the diffusion of knowledge in agricultural engineering, viticulture and enological studies, and has trained the best oenologists from the Trentino region and Italy as a whole.

The foundation is organised in the following way:
  • a Study and Training Centre attended by more than 1,000 students from all over Italy,
  • a Technology Transfer Centre that conducts applied research and experimentation, offering advice and support to businesses in the agricultural, forestry and environmental sectors,
  • a Research and Innovation Centre exclusively dedicated to sustainable agriculture and the conservation of biodiversity.
