Trentodoc confirms its position as the most awarded sparkling wine in Italy gaining 73 medals, including 29 gold and 44 silver, in the 2024 edition of the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships (CSWWC), the world’s most prestigious competition exclusively dedicated to the sparkling wine sector, in which almost 1,000 labels produced in 20 countries participated this year. For Trentodoc it is a record number of gold medals and total medals, which had never been so many. This news has arrived
just a few days before the third edition of the Trentodoc Festival, a widespread event, which from 20 to 22 September will enliven Trento and its wine production areas to discover, talk about and taste sparkling wine from the mountains.
Founder and President Tom Stevenson, commented, “In 2024, Trentodoc won more Gold and Silver medals than any other Italian region at The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships (CSWWC). According to the president of the Istituto Trento Doc, Stefano Fambri, “The 2024 edition of the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships (CSWWC) confirmed the excellence achieved by Trentodoc production. The work done by the 67 sparkling wine houses that are members of the Istituto Trento Doc has enabled the collective trademark to continue achieving prominence on the international sparkling wine scene. The Riserva type stands out among the 73 Trentodoc sparkling wines awarded. For a Trentodoc wine to boast this distinction, the production regulations stipulate a period of ageing on the lees of at least 36 months. All the sparkling wine houses often extend this period, even beyond 10 years, thereby enhancing the complexity of the end product. The ability of the wines to evolve and stand the test of time is ensured by the acidity of the grapes, which also determines the freshness of the bubbles in Non-vintage and Millesimato wines. Aged on the lees for at least 15 and 24 months respectively, these two types of Trentodoc are also well represented in the CSWWC list of winners.
Altitude and the mountains, special features of Trentodoc’s identity, are a major resource in the face of ongoing climate change: 70% of the Trentino region is located at over 1000 metres above sea level, 20% over 2000 metres, with 94 peaks exceeding 3000 metres. Produced at altitudes of up to 800 metres above sea level, Trentodoc was the first classic method sparkling wine to obtain DOC status in Italy, and one of the first in the world.
